Africa's First Professor of Geology , Jamiu Mosobalaje Oyawoye, is Dead

Professor Jamiu Mosoalaje Oyawoye, the first professor of geology in Africa, is dead. Prince Olukitibi Oyawoye, the professor's first son, confirmed his death on Monday evening.

The professor who died at the age of 96 was from Offa, Kwara State. Before his death, Prince Oyawoye was the Aremo of Offa. He served as a lecturer at the University of Ibadan between 1960 and 1977. He became a professor in 1966 at the age of 39 and became the first Professor of Geology in Africa.

He also served as the Chairman of the West Africa Examinations Council.
