Security has been tightened at Benue Assembly complex in Makurdi, Benue state capital over speculations the Executive Pension Bill may be passed into law today. About three security vehicles with armed mobile and regular police men took strategic positions around the Assembly complex.
The Nation News online has reported that thugs have also been spotted to be on standby at State's Assembly Complex. In the statement posted online, the Nation mentioned that "Hefty-looking youths with bloodshot eyes and massive mustaches as well as heavily build shoulders like prize fighters were also on standby at the Assembly complex."
The tight security is said to be in connection to the controversial executive pension bill, initiated by the outgoing governor, Samuel Ortom, seeking to place ex-governors and their deputies on gratuity, pension and other benefits.
A Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO) has gone to court with a motion, seeking an injunction, restraining lawmakers from acting on the bill.
Some of the law makers who are not in support of the bill lamented that the outgoing governor is not pension-friendly and so therefore, would not be party to the bill.
