Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Friday dissolved the state's 9the assembly following the dissolution order issued and read by Bernard Nule, the Clerk of the House.
The dissolution order was read during the valedictory session held by members of the House.
According to the Clerk the dissolution was in line with the state's House of Assembly dissolution order, Section 105, subsection 3, of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
The Constitution confers powers to the governor to dissolve the assembly in order to make way for new leadership.
One of our Sources reported that Titus Uba, the Former Speaker of the 9th Assembly, appreciated his fellow House members and the Assembly and praised the performance of the House "with the processing of 60 bills, of which 54 passed into law for assent and six expired."
The Source further explained that House members present during the session expressed formal praises for the 9th Assembly, "in which former majority leader Hon. Damian Cheme, extolled the legislative arm for being the most productive and peaceful across the country and appreciated members for the privilege to serve the House.
"In his reaction, Minority Leader, Bem Mngutyo, called for financial autonomy of the legislative arm of government, which will provide independence for the arm to function properly without interference from the executive."
