Liverpool To Miss Out On Champions League Football For The First Time Since 2016-17

Liverpool finished this season's Premier League in fifth place which means they will miss out playing Champions League next season for the first time since 2016-17.

Last season, Liverpool were on top of the English and European football. They won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, finishing a point behind Manchester City who won the league and losing at the finals against Real Madrid.

Liverpool ended the season with a 4-4 draw against a bottom and relegated club, Southampton. But the Red's manager, Jurgen Klopp, believes his side "will absolutely be a contender again".

"There were moments during this season where you thought it [the struggle] would be four years long," he said.

"Imagine if we were our normal self [earlier in the season], which we absolutely will be next season and we will be a contender again.

"The last 11 games helped us to realise that again."

Firmino scored against Southampton in what would be his final appearance as he and James Milner are said to be departing Anfied.

Finishing fifth in the English Premier League means Liverpool will be competing at the Europa League level next season.
